Alopi Madhaveshwari

One of the eighteen Maha Shakti Peethas — the Mother of the Sangam city, Madhaveshwari, revered as Alopi, “she who vanished,” where the last part of Sati is said to have disappeared.
Where the last part vanished अलोपी
At Prayagraj — the Tirtharaj, king of pilgrimage places, where Ganga, Yamuna and the unseen Saraswati meet — the Mother abides as Madhaveshwari. Here, tradition says, the very last part of Sati's body vanished (alop) into the sacred confluence, and so she is worshipped as Alopi Devi.
No idol — a sacred doli
Unusually, there is no image in the sanctum. The Devi is worshipped as a wooden swing or palanquin (doli) — a fitting form for “she who vanished,” present yet formless.
At the Tirtharaj
Prayagraj is the greatest of tirthas; the pilgrim who bathes at the Sangam and honours the ancestors also bows to its guardian Mother, Madhaveshwari.
She who disappeared into the Sangam कथा
As Shiva carried Sati and Vishnu's chakra divided her, the final portion is said to have reached Prayagraj and vanished into the sacred waters — leaving no limb to enshrine, only the Mother's living presence. So she became Alopi, the vanished one, worshipped as a doli rather than a carved form.
It is a mystery fitting the Tirtharaj: at the meeting of the rivers, the Mother is everywhere and nowhere, formless as the confluence itself.
