Bhavani Chandranath
भवानी देवी — चन्द्रनाथ, बांग्लादेश
One of the great Shakti Peethas — where the right arm of Sati is said to have fallen. The Mother abides as Bhavani at Chandranath hill in Sitakunda, crowned by the famed Chandranath Shiva temple, guarded by the Bhairava Chandrashekhara.
Bhavani of Chandranath भवानी
On the forested Chandranath hill above Sitakunda in Chittagong, the Mother abides as Bhavani — one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, where the right arm of Sati fell. The hill is crowned by the celebrated Chandranath Shiva temple, and the pilgrimage — a long climb to the summit — is among the most beloved of the Bengali Hindus.
A hilltop pilgrimage
The darshan is reached by a steep ascent of hundreds of steps to the summit shrines — a journey of devotion rewarded by the Mother and by sweeping views of the sea and plains.
Shakti and Shiva together
Bhavani the Devi and Chandranath the Lord crown the same sacred hill; the site is a complete Shakta-Shaiva kshetra and a great Shiva tirtha in its own right.
Where the right arm fell कथा
As Vishnu's Sudarshana Chakra divided the body of Sati, her right arm came to rest on the Chandranath hill, and the Mother took her seat there as Bhavani, guarded by Shiva himself as Chandrashekhara.
The hill has drawn seekers and pilgrims across the ages; the climb to Bhavani and Chandranath remains one of the most cherished pilgrimages of the eastern land.
