Tripurmalini Jalandhar

त्रिपुरमालिनी देवी — जालन्धर, पंजाब

One of the great Shakti Peethas — where the left breast of Sati is said to have fallen. The Mother abides as Tripurmalini at the ancient Devi Talab Mandir, the great Shakti seat of Punjab, guarded by the Bhairava Bhishana.

Tripurmalini of the Devi Talab त्रिपुरमालिनी

The old city of Jalandhar takes its very name from the land where the Mother dwells; here, tradition holds, the left breast of Sati fell, and the Devi took her seat as Tripurmalini. Her temple, the Devi Talab Mandir, rises beside an ancient sacred tank (talab) more than two centuries old, revered across Punjab.

The Devi Talab

The temple is named for its old sacred tank; a beautiful shrine and a model of the Amarnath cave stand within the renovated complex, drawing pilgrims year-round.

A Sri Vidya seat

As Tripurmalini — a form of Tripura Sundari — the Devi is worshipped in the Sri Vidya tradition; the site is counted among the great Peethas of North India.

Katha & Scripture

Where the left breast fell कथा

As Shiva bore Sati across the worlds and Vishnu's chakra divided her form, her left breast — the seat of a mother's nourishing love — came to rest at Jalandhar, and the Devi took her seat there as Tripurmalini.

Punjab, the land of five rivers, has honoured her through the ages; the Devi Talab remains a beloved heart of Shakti worship in the region.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु मातृरूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥
yā devī sarva-bhūteṣu mātṛ-rūpeṇa saṁsthitā ।
namas-tasyai namas-tasyai namas-tasyai namo namaḥ ॥
“To the Devi who abides in all beings in the form of the Mother — salutations to her, again and again.”
— Durga Saptashati (Devi Mahatmya), Chapter 5
