Jashoreshwari Ishwaripur
यशोरेश्वरी देवी — ईश्वरीपुर, बांग्लादेश
One of the great Shakti Peethas — where the palms of Sati are said to have fallen. The Mother abides as Jashoreshwari at Ishwaripur in old Jashore, an ancient seat of the Devi in Bangladesh, guarded by the Bhairava Chanda.
Jashoreshwari of Ishwaripur यशोरेश्वरी
In the old land of Jashore, at Ishwaripur in Satkhira, dwells Jashoreshwari — “the goddess of Jashore” — one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, where the palms of Sati fell. An ancient temple raised by the region's kings, it remains among the most revered Devi seats of Bangladesh, its Bhairava the fierce Chanda.
An ancient royal shrine
Tradition links the temple to Anari, a brahmin, and later to Raja Pratapaditya of Jashore, who worshipped Jashoreshwari as his family Devi; its old stone gateway still stands.
A living Devi seat
Despite the passage of centuries and borders, Jashoreshwari remains a place of active worship and one of the great pilgrimages of Bangladeshi Hindus.
Where the palms fell कथा
As Shiva bore Sati and Vishnu's chakra divided her body, the palms of her hands came to rest at Ishwaripur, and the Mother took her seat there as Jashoreshwari, guarded by Shiva himself as the Bhairava Chanda.
Bengal, most devoted of lands to the Mother, honours Jashoreshwari among its Peethas; her worship endures across the border in the old land of Jashore.
