Renuka (Ekaveerika) Mahur
रेणुका (एकवीरा) — माहुरगड, महाराष्ट्र
One of the eighteen Maha Shakti Peethas — Renuka Devi (Ekaveerika) atop Mahurgad, mother of Parashurama, on a hill revered equally as a great Dattatreya kshetra.
Renuka of Mahurgad रेणुका माता
On the hill of Mahur (Mahurgad) the Mother abides as Renuka — worshipped in Adi Shankara's stotram as Ekaveerika. She is the celebrated mother of the sage-warrior Parashurama, and for countless families of Maharashtra she is the beloved Kula Devi.
Renuka & Parashurama
Renuka's story — her devotion, her son Parashurama's obedience, and her restoration — is among the most moving in the Puranas; Mahur is the heart of her worship.
A hill of many shrines
Mahurgad is unusual: alongside Renuka it holds a great Dattatreya shrine and the temple of Anasuya — a hill where Shakti and the Datta tradition meet.
The Mother who was restored कथा
Renuka, wife of the sage Jamadagni and mother of Parashurama, is honoured across the Deccan as a form of the Devi. Mahur is enshrined among the eighteen Maha Peethas as her seat, where she is worshipped as Ekaveerika.
As with many Peethas, texts differ on which part of Sati is linked here; Mahur's glory rests on Renuka as one of the eighteen supreme seats and the Mother of Parashurama.
