At Pithapuram — one of the Pancharama-region kshetras of coastal Andhra — the Mother abides as Puruhutika Devi within the Kukkuteswara Swamy temple. The site is also honoured as a Pada Gaya, a tirtha where rites for the ancestors are performed.

Puruhutika is enshrined in the great Kukkuteswara Shiva temple; here Shakti and her Bhairava (Shiva) are worshipped in one sacred complex.

Like Gaya and Jajpur, Pithapuram is a place of shraddha for the departed — the pilgrim honours both the Mother and the ancestors.

Pithapuram is enshrined in Adi Shankara's Ashtadasha stotram as a Maha Shakti Peeth, where the Mother took form as Puruhutika. In the Shakti Peeth tradition a part of Sati is linked with the site; its glory rests on its rank among the eighteen and its standing as a Pada Gaya.
It is also linked with the lives of the Datta tradition's saints, adding to the sanctity of this ancient coastal kshetra.
