One of the four Adi Shakti Peethas — the presiding Shakti of Purushottama Kshetra, enshrined within the great Jagannath Temple, where the feet of Sati fell.
Where feet of the Mother rest श्रीक्षेत्र की देवी
At Puri — the Jagannath Dham, one of the Char Dham — the feet of Sati fell, and there the Mother abides as Vimala, the guardian Shakti of the whole sacred kshetra. Uniquely among the Peethas, her Bhairava is not a form of Shiva but Bhagavan Jagannath himself.
She sanctifies the Mahaprasad
The famed food of Jagannath becomes true Mahaprasad only after it is re-offered to Vimala Devi. In this the whole Vaishnava kshetra rests upon the Shakti.
The tantric heart of Puri
Though Puri is a great Vaishnava dham, Vimala is its Shakta core — worshipped with special intensity through Navratri and the night of Kali Puja.
The Mother within the Dham कथा
As Shiva roamed the cosmos bearing Sati's body and Vishnu's chakra divided her limbs, her feet (pada) came to rest at Puri. There the Devi established herself as Vimala — “the pure one” — and the site became both a Char Dham of Vishnu and a seat of the Mother, the two great streams of devotion meeting as one.
So the pilgrim to Puri bows not only to Jagannath, but to the Shakti without whom even his prasad is incomplete.

Seva at the sanctum पूजा
Vimala's shrine lies in the south-west corner of the Jagannath Temple complex; her darshan is taken along with that of Lord Jagannath. Timings follow the temple's daily rituals.

Offerings
